Yes the square style HVAC box does have bulbs. 3 to be exact. After you take the unit out of the dash you have to take off the little cover off the backside then you should be staring at them. Unfortunately I don't remember a part number; most people swap them for LED's.

Thanks much. I did some YouTube watching yesterday and have decided to dive into a full interior led conversion. The gauges are pretty dim, the radio is even dimmer, and the hvac is dark. this will fix everything.

Just went to check why my interior foot well courtesy lights weren't working. The bulbs look to have filaments intact but no light, and checked sockets with test light and they have power woth door open/dome light on, so will get some replacement bulbs.

Some other electronic questions. Is the key-ignition alarm wired to the interior light? If I close my door with the key in, the alarm stops. But I have a faulty drivers side door jamb switch, as every time I get in the truck, I have to wiggle the door jamb button if I want the interior lights on. But if i don't wiggle the switch to turn it on (complete circuit) and get in and put the key in the ignition and close door, how does the alarm know to go off if the door jamb switch isnt working? Maybe I am missing something here.

Also, the hood lamp, is that switched? Mine has power (no bulb in there), just wondering how it turns on and off?

    Cheers

Yes, but the brains of the operations for the key-in alarm are in the courtesy module under the dash. I'm not exactly sure what all that ties into, though.

Yes, it's just a mercury switch inside the fixture that turns on and off depending on the angle it's sitting at. Something to be aware of if you're parking on steep hills, I've come back to a dead battery once because my underhood light was running while the hood was still down.

    Awesome, thanks for your help!

I will get some bulbs for the courtesy lights and order a new door jamb switch.

Are these janky duct tape connections factory?

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Been peeling away my harness trying to track down some electrical issues, and these “Y” crimp connections are everywhere underneath the factory shrink wrap/electrical tape. Chintzy metal crimp connection covered in duct tape.

Are these factory? I wouldn’t put 90s GM past it, but damn that’s some hackery.

Ok I have a 89 Chevy K1500 that has a weird electrical issue. When I start the vehicle in the morning I turn the headlights on with the switch and they come on instantly but the tail lights and dash lights sometimes take a couple minutes to come on. I have noticed that the colder it is the longer it takes for the dash/tail lights to come on. The headlight switch has been replaced but I haven't noticed this issue until the winter when a cop pulled me over with no taillights. I can some times turn the light dimmer wheel up and down on the headlight switch to get them to turn on faster but it's never when I turn the headlights on.
