Yeah, i think youre right. Ive been looking around and those mickey thompsons generally come in 275s or 295s. Either way i dont know how they made them fit.
Well, more accurately i dont know if I can make them fit because i have a 2/4 inch drop. And a 295/65 rear looks great, but i dont think it will go in there without rubbing. Makes me sad.

You can take a tape measure and see how much clearance you have with your 235/75 15s (or whatever size you have now) and do the math. 235/25.4 (mm/inch)=9.25" and 295/25.4=11.6". 11.6"-9.25"=2.35". Divide that by 2=1.175". Do you have 1.175" of clearance on both sides of your tires now? If so, they should fit.

Edit: Of course you'll need wider rims so you'll have to watch your back spacing. YMMV

My '97. 2/4 drop & 295's. A 40 series 20" though. Same width as any other 295. 29" tall.
Plenty of room. Lips aren't even rolled.
I'd check the height of those M/T's. That's the only thing I could see causing probs.

It's crazy, those 295s don't look wide AT ALL!!!! I have a 315/40 I wanted to put on my Tahoe, but its 13" wide, not mounted. Even on Nitto's site it's not that wide. Gonna swap for 295/45, least then know they fit.

thanks for the response.
In the link here it looks like those 295s are on stock 7 inch ss wheels? You think those wheels are wider? https://www.classiccarliquidators.com/vehicles/54/1990-chevrolet-454ss

295's will fit on a 7", but the sidewalls will be pulled in quite a bit. Makes for a weird wear pattern. Playing with the air pressure a bit can aleviate that some.
Biggest prob is finding a tire shop that'll mount them. Some won't because a 7" wide wheel is too narrow for the width recommendation of a 295, which IIRC, is a minimum of 8".
The rear 20" on my truck are 10" wide.
