All good advice in here! I had a master cylinder fail pretty abruptly in my Monte Carlo while I was driving it one day, your symptoms describe it exactly. Stick to OEM ACDelco, and definitely have a shop with a GM Tech 2 or comparable scanner bleed the ABS system. Looks like the part number you want should be 18M1492 unless you have the hydroboost brakes, then it would be 18M712.

RockAuto has them both for $59 and $73 respectively, and we've got that 5% off code in the RockAuto vendors section of the forums here.

18M1492:

I've had friends how purchase parts of rockauto and had the part go bad within the mouth. I've never tried rockauto because I hear more bad storys then good when it comes to rockauto.

That's really more of a manufacturer issue than something to blame RockAuto for IMO... They're just a distributor. They sell everything from cheap junk to high end parts.

Thanks for the link! I just got back from vacation and placed the order. Should be here by mid next week and I'll take it to my mechanic soon thereafter.

I appreciate the help and knowledge everyone!

Finally got around to getting the truck to my mechanic. Took less than an hour to swap it in. Brakes work perfectly again. Thanks everyone for the help!
