There's a lot more different between vortec and tbi than just the heads though. Any MPFI will get better mileage than a tbi.
I agree, but just want to counter the arguments you read about Tbi heads having better torque in low rpm daily driving. Vortec trucks had 330 tq @2800 rpms and Tbi trucks 310@2400.

TBI heads will give more low-end power with everything else equal. You cannot compare a factory TBI truck to a factory Vortec truck as there are alot of other differences like the roller cam, improved exhaust and sequential port fuel injection.

Someone recently mentioned a TBI head build to me and sent me their dyno results. Lots of torque made with not much ignition timing advance needed. Means it should run happily on 87 octane. Stock TBI heads from what I understand.

I am using a ported version of those 193 heads on my tow 385 engine. The engine won't see any high rpm. It will make around 300hp at 3500 rpm, the torque should be around 500 foot pounds at 1500 rpm (this is according to Desktop dyno)..It has a tow cam etc
When we cc'ed one chamber it was 71.5 cc.

A better head all else equal, will be equal at worst, and then make more as rpm increases.

Apples and oranges since it has a cam swap, but this is good.

Honestly a 441, 041, and a 416 305 head are about the best bang for buck flow and performance. The 305 will out flow most heads even with the 1.84 valves if done right

That works out at 79lbs.ft/litre.
A NA 2.0 litre Nissan I had made 130lbs.ft at 4800rpm (65lbs.ft/litre) relying on inlet resonance tuning to achieve it.
A 1 litre sports bike will make around 80-85lbs.ft/litre heavily relying on inlet resonance tuning for that (with very fast opening valves).
How do you get 79lbs.ft/litre without any significant inlet resonance tuning when a 350 Vortec makes 330lbs.ft (58lbs.ft/litre)?
