1989 Chevy c1500 350 TBI. Noticed my knock sensor connector was broken, just hanging. But, there is no check engine light coming up. The truck is running rich on start up, not sure how much the knock sensor is supposed to affect how well the engine is running. Should there be a code? How will replacing the sensor/connector help how it runs?

Did you check for any stored codes with a scanner or the "paperclip trick"? The SES light doesn't always stay on but the ECM will store codes for 30 - 40 key cycles.
