It’ll be for one. :nono: I can’t remember, but I got a 10 pack or something. Somewhere!

Edited from fb post - pretty sure the breather gear oil spewing was a combination of: 100°+ temps, tailpipes chopped off so muffler exits were aimed right at the axle (was headed to the muffler shop), breather vent hose relocated too low after lowering the truck, and pinion shims likely slightly changed the "full" position in the differential since it is now tipped forward 3° so possibly slightly over full.

Started with checking the level reading on truck sitting flat on the garage floor (almost near perfect level, slight rake) then drove it up on ramps/jacked it up and supported on axle tubes to match the level.

Replaced the breather since they're stupid cheap, not much to go wrong with them but just in case it was stuck. Cleaned the gear oil off the hose and surrounding area so I can tell if it's still spewing after the next solid test drive. Used random hardware out of the bolt bin and a sway bar end link spacer to attach breather higher up on a bed support, about as high as I can place it under the bed.

Checked fill level, tiny trickle came out so it's now at "full" at normal ride position (checked w/level against how it measured before putting up on stands)

Done with that project (until extended test drive) I moved onto the next, which was to grind the bump stop pads off the rear axle so they'd quit hitting the notch braces. Yeah. First I was showering my arm with hot sparks, so I changed position. Showering my belly with hot sparks. Tugged shirt down, changed position. Hot sparks in my EAR. Changed position. Hot spark made it behind my safety glasses into my EYE. FCK IT I'm done.. hadn't even made a clean cut through the first of four sides. Save it for another day with a new approach. Set the truck back down on the ground and made a few half-hearted victory laps around the neighborhood before coming in for a shower then out to dinner for 2nd night of celebrating my wife's birthday. <3

Hot sparks in my EAR.
Arrgh! That's the worst.

Hot spark made it behind my safety glasses into my EYE.
Doh! Wait, that's the worst.

I hope you're okay. I've had metal removed from my eye three times now. You feel really stupid when the Urgent Care doctor remembers you from the last time she had to remove metal from your eye.

Safety glasses are minimal protection. I wear these when I'm cutting and grinding now. My co-pay's pretty low, but these are even cheaper.

Good suggestion. I’m going to HF tonight and will pick a pair up!

Pretty sure I related the boring story about getting metal in my eye while cleaning the shop up forever ago. Also blew in behind the safety glasses. I was sweeping up and my big fan had vibrated a grille screw loose and some of the shrapnel got me. Yeah, super bright light shining in your eye while they keep telling you "don't move" and picking at your eyeball with a needle, then polishing the rust off your cornea with a dremel-like tool. Big fun. But yeah, this time I'm pretty sure I'm OK, not feeling anything in the eye this time. Got a couple tiny burn spots literally right under my lower eyelid.

Good suggestion. I’m going to HF tonight and will pick a pair up!
Won't keep the sparks out of the ears though. I've got to come up with some position I can get in to get that job done.. I thought a bit about venturing out there today, but my arm is still burning (I know, I know, wahh) where the initial shower of sparks hit it, up close. Plus I'm hungover from excellent, poisonously strong margaritas.

Haha, you got one of those too. Mine used to say "But it's my Birthday month"
It was my decision to celebrate the wife's birthday a couple nights in a row.. we had family/friends that had schedule stuff where they couldn't all make it on the same night. No worries! I'm good for going out twice in a row..

The breather relocation looks like an excellent solution. Could’ve been factory!

My hair covers my ears, at least there is some protection.
Ol’ long-hair-don’t-care. I’m bald and shave what’s left so I’ve always got a hat or bandanna on, but try to remember ear muffs when I’m cutting. Cleaning metal dust and bits of abrasive disc out of your ears at the end of the day isnt any fun.

(Neither is the constant squealing noise from a life of not wearing any ear pro…)

First I was showering my arm with hot sparks, so I changed position. Showering my belly with hot sparks. Tugged shirt down, changed position. Hot sparks in my EAR. Changed position. Hot spark made it behind my safety glasses into my EYE. FCK IT I'm done..
Ouch!! I was taught (more like ‘here’s the switch, don’t touch the spinning part’) to use a grinder as an apprentice welders/pipe fitters helper. Burned a hole in my shirt and proceeded to fill my belly button with sch40 stainless dust and abrasive disc particles. That was a long day…

I wear prescription glasses, and I get more stuff in my eyes WITH the side shields on than I do with them off.

I got these for using the torch

and this big goofey face shield for cutting and grinding. Has already saved my life 3 times. Twice with the death wheel and once when the 14” abrasive chop saw disc exploded while trying to cut a piece at 45 degrees. Clamp wasn’t tight enough and it yanked the piece into the blade.

Whatever you do, do NOT wear gloves when using ANYTHING that spins.
