Dual pattern cams are a crutch. Is there an example you can share of a single patter cam performing better than a dual pattern cam with the same intake lobe? I'm thinking about this from an intake lobe point of view, where the intake lobe is static between the two comparisons.
It depends on alot of factors. I am looking at it from a valve overlap stand point. I can give you two examples off the top of my head because I ran both cams in the same engines. A 9.5:1 305 with headers and a decent exhaust performs better with a 218/218 @ 0.050, 0.450 lift, 106 LSA cam than it does with a 214/224 @ 0.050 .442/.465 lift, on a 112 LSA.

The second example is a 10:1 350 ZZZ vs ZZ4 crate engine. The early example used a 230/230 @ 0.050, 0.480 lift, 110 LSA cam. The later engines ZZ3+ used a 208/221 @ 0.050, 0.474/0.510 lift and 112 LSA. Even though the ZZ3 and ZZ4 were rated slightly more power, the ZZZ-ZZ2 run quicker track times and have a noticeably stronger torque curve in the 1,500-3,500 rpm range. The ZZ3 cam change was so that guys could comfortably run automatic overdrive transmissions, a/c and power brakes on their hot rods and street rods

If you have cylinder heads where the exhausts flow is close 80% of of the intakes a single pattern cam is always the better choice. Head flow numbers are the first thing a cam grinder will ask for and without those numbers your pissing in the wind.

Yep 305 Vortec heads has that 80% I/E flow.
