The 2500LD's kept the 6 lug pattern on both 2WDs and 4WDs.

Edit: 2500LD's had a 7200 GVWR, where as the regular 8 lug 3/4 tons had a 8600 GVWR.

Short bed would definitely be better. But I've always had a subtle affinity for long beds, depending on the truck. I had a 78 ford trailer special in high school that was a long bed. Two tone brown and white. 460 big block, cruise, ac. **** mileage, but such a fun truck to drive.
