I'm going to pull the turbo muffler off my tk this spring. It was fun for many yrs, but once it got under my skin a couple yrs ago it became fatiguing. Especially when it's under load on longer drives. Now it's downright pi##ing me off. I can't hear that beautiful 80's 4-spkr stereo very well :D. She's coming off! I've got other rods if I need to hear a tone or burble.

So....tapping into your guys' vast interweb wisdom, does anyone actually make a quiet oem-like muffler for these trucks? I ask b/c aftermarket mufflers I've bought and put on my plow and other trucks over the last 25-odd yrs, those which 'claimed' they were "quiet as OEM" ...aren't THAT quiet. Esp those Walker Quiet-flow mufflers. They still have a tone greater than stock. My tk's got a fire-breathing (or is that smoke!) stock 190hp 350TBI, 3" exhaust. Do my own install.

Whaddya think? Love to hear your recommendations.

Most car guys want some rumble so I doubt you will get a recommendation without some rumble. Even the very tame Flowmaster 80 has rumble with a SBC.

If you want stock-quiet, go to a muffler shop and ask for it. Thats what they have in-stock and install on a daily basis.

Just run two magnaflow mufflers in line. Good sound reduction without killing HP the way the factory style mufflers do.

I got under there and looked it over. Being a short box, not a lot of room for a long muffler (or tandems) with the existing pipe (which is still pretty new).

Mine's always been a single-outlet exhaust. Are the dual outlets quieter? Was that the idea?

The idea is to make it look like a high-performance vehicle for more cash in their pocket.

If its a single inlet muffler, there is no purpose to a dual outlet unless your going for looks. If you want 2 outlets, go with a real dual exhaust with an H-pipe or X-pipe. Anything other than that is basically a body lift to fit 35" tires fit under a cabin cruiser.

No answer here, just some stuff to consider.

I've always heard that the spiral-flow mufflers were good at lowering the noise while keeping the horsepower up, but I don't have any experience with them. It might all be marketing.

I bought some Cherry Bomb "Salute" mufflers, and they're just enough to keep me from getting pulled over. They drone pretty bad. I think anything under the Cherry Bomb name is going to be loud.

Manifolds are usually quieter than headers.

Run the tailpipes all the way out to the back bumper and angle them down slightly.

You can always stack mufflers in series so long as you have the room.
