Money orders are trash, and no real way of tracking. Good way for anyone sending money like that to get screwed. I dunno why you wouldn't just take a personal check. Its not like he would have the truck before it cleared.

The acct and routing info is nothing sus really. Its how transfers are done.

Definitely sell it as you want, but Id be the one walking away, if a seller told me what you told him.
Keep in mind though, if @movietvet and potential buyer have been texting he knows name and phone number as well. From that a WHOLE lot of other information can be gathered pretty easily. I know people that have had identity stolen and/or scammed with much less info. Once again, you can never be too safe with a stranger and your personal/financial information.

I know all about limiting information, and I'm not saying I would mess with someone in the same scenario. But while dismissed as opinion, a money order would be the equivalent of sticking $500 in an envelope, no security to the buyer at all.

A personal check or transfer carries institutional information on who/where.

Turns out, the tide has turned and now the guy's dad is sending a check for the $500 and the guy will be out of the Army on Feb. 7 and here in Eugene, by Feb. 10.

He wants the truck and is anxious for all this to be over and on with his life. I will be recommending to him to join the forum. He is 23.

Sometimes you just never know. Getting a feel for a person's character or whether they're even "real" or a scammer is so difficult online. Real people don't often realize just how convincing scammers can be.

Apologies in advance for the sidetrack, but reminds me of a customer at my old shop. Guy emails me and asks for a bunch of hard-to-find interior parts (good red *everything* for a 1990-1994 regular cab) - he came across kind of weird at first, and then when he showed up to see what I had, he arrives with his WHOLE FAMILY (grown adult but with mom, dad, wife, kids) in a minivan. They descended upon my yard and I was going nuts trying to corral everyone while helping him out.

Turns out the guy is super nice, has a '90 RCSB that was gifted to him by his church. It ended up getting stolen and partially stripped - interior, wheels, and a few other misc. parts. I worked a preliminary deal with him to get the truck back on the road, parts and labor. Got him setup with enough to get the truck driveable, took it out to his place, then once installed on the truck he followed me back to the shop and we did some more. Replaced broken steering column from the theft, and went to work on the interior. Kept an eye out for a nicer seat than the one I initially had, then he was back for that as well. We did a few other things to it over several months.

From a weird first encounter to a regular customer, taught me to be careful judging first impressions online. This is Venus' truck after we got him pretty well straightened out.

Yea, the only hinky feel I got from him was when I stated I wanted a m/o or c/c and he veered to wanting my bank name, acct number and routing number, without addressing what I asked for and any warning of what he was wanting to do instead.

Then when I called him on it, he just said he thought it would be faster. I had made it clear already that him not getting out of the service till first part of Feb. was not a problem.

I do not assume things. He was. Now he knows where I am coming from and I would like him to have the truck and hope he takes care of it. I will encourage him to join this forum because he is not gonna live near here and therefore I cannot fix things for him.

I know you guys/girls will take care of him and my girl's Big Brown Beast.

I’ve been through similar situations and sometimes it’s a matter of both sides getting to a point of comfort. The buyer, as you, has the same reservations until then.

I expected it and now it has started. The buyer is now sending me texts, at least once a day, asking about this and that.

No, there is no cup holder.

Yes, all window switches and door lock switches work on both doors.

Yes, cruise control works.

Yes, 4x4 works correctly with the floor control lever.

Yes, the a/c works.

Yes, the heater and defroster works as should.

Yes, wipers work as should.

Yes, the trailer brake works as should and both the round 7 pin and 4 pin connectors at rear work as should.

Yes, etc, etc. etc. etc.
