I have 215 85 16 tires on it. That's what was on it when I bought this ambulance, the old tires were from 2005 and I replaced a couple years ago. Need to replace at least the rear 4 now, they're showing uneven wear.
When doing research on a tire I found on marketplace I input my vehicle details on cooper tires website and they say I need a different tire -

If I put 4x4 instead of DRW on americastire.com it gives me 245/75/16. It's a 4x4 DRW. Any opinions? Would it be ok to put 225/75/16 tires in the rear axle and leave the fronts as 215/85/16?
All websites say this is the right tire for a drw cheyenne

Maybe it's not a good idea with heavy weight, being that the duallys are already so close to each other.

You can run wider but you'll need a spacer; I think @88GMCtruck, @83GMCK2500, and @skylark are running over sized tires with 255s and 265s.
I know when my K3500 gets converted to a dually I'm going to run 255/85R16s, I think those need at least a 1.75 inch spacer
I ran a 2.5 with 265/75/16s. Those tires look really wide for 215s most guys get away with 235s but they have to be fully inflated or else they'll touch. Are yours inflated decently?

Thanks guys(and girls). Well actually interestingly enough @Schurkey and @Nad_Yvalhosert it says 225 75 16 on the door jam:death:. Weird huh? I'm gonna stick with the same size I have on here though. I found some nice 215/85/16 today for the rear axle.

I have never seen any literature that said a gm dually in gmt400 ever came with 215/85, but years ago a guy proved me wrong with a shot of his door sticker showing 215/85. I think he had a 98 k3500 pickup.

They are definitely in the minority though. All literature I have says LT225/75R16D is factory size for a DRW.

The 215/85, 225/75 will fit without rubbing. 235/85 is same height as 265/75 and will barely touch when loaded, but it hasn't been an issue.
I believe 245/75 is same height as 215/85 so if you.want more floatation on the front, run the 245/75 front and 215/85 rear.
Same concept with 265/75 and 235/85.
I prefer to run all 6 the same for rotation purposes.

My 99 came stock with cute little toy LT215/85r16D per the parts giant print out, the doorjamb decal, and the owner’s manual. Had LT265/75r16E HTs all the way around when purchased, 2” rear spacers.
Currently on 235/85 front and 265/75 rears. Will be swapped out for all 6 being 235/85s, Load Range F or G (12 or 14 ply). At least until I secure a set of all steel wheels. Then will be 7.50-16LT bias ply mudders of the Deestone 503 inclination. Still with the 2” rear spacers. No point in having a 4wd 1t dually if it can’t do actual 4wd 1t dually grade tasks.
