I use this chart, it is helpful, but you have to know the diameter in inches of your tires, what gear you either have or want to run and then look at the chart.

Yeah I seen that chart 456 says worst mileage. But more power will the higher rpms on the freeway make the engine strain more ?

Called around shops recommended 410s
Eaton, Auburn and Yukon or oe. I wanted lsd posi lockers are too loud for me the popping would get on my nerves. Still debating on 456 because I might go 35's in the future but not anytime soon . Quoted around 3kish front and back. I heard different from Yukon gears good some bad. What brands you guys use

I have 456 gears and went from 35 tires to 33 . With the 33s its great in town. On the highway if I am in a hurry it sucks up gas like mad. I really don't ever go over 70 mph .

And then calculate your final ratio when in OD. I went from 3.42 to 4.11 with 275/60R15s (~28"), cruising with .7:1 (700R4) final drive. I really didn't see much difference in MPG but, it's in it's power band on the highway, even @80+ MPH but, that's just me :anitoof:

Personally, you'll be disappointed with anything less than 4.56s :33:

Jeez never seen anyone regear for 33s, not even the guys running 3.42s. I pull around 33s and sometimes 35s on stock motor and 3.73s...cant tell the difference between 265/75r16s and 33x12.50r20s , rims r light tho. U can feel the 35x12.50r20s but also they are 12ply and heavy but still plenty grunt tho and 21mpg doing 80mph on highway lol. I wouldn't waste money regearing for that small of a tire unless those rims are UNGODLY heavy. Spend that $500 on power adders for motor or a good tune instead, that's just my opinion tho. I'm about to put 9+ lift on my buddies truck and 38s, gonna go 5.13s since he don't run highway or I'd use 4.88s. I think , correct me if I'm wrong, biggest gears u can fit in the 10 bolt is 5.33s anyways

Well I calculated my rim size and there about 33.2 " and there heavy from my research 410s brings it back to stock 456 is good off the line in the city but when you go on freeways you loose the top end power. I do a mixture of both Im just worried about passing cars on the freeway and not loosing power I have a hard time climbing hills. How about 411s or 430 it's in the middle but that not too common with our trucks. Oh and another thing my truck seems to down shift alot when I climb hills

Burnouts, posi rear, ~33" tires? Will the 8.5" rear end, if that's what you have, like that kind of misbehavin'?

Is it a 4x4? Then don't forget about the 8.2" IFS front diff gears; you'll have to pick a ratio for which you can find gears for BOTH diffs.

When I changed my diff gearing I picked a ratio to yield a reasonable engine RPM at speeds that were usable in both 4th (OD) *and* 3rd. My thoughts went like this: I figured that I would use 3rd if I was towing a heavy load, and I wanted to keep the engine RPM at or below 3000RPM at 65MPH in that case. Without a load, I wanted to cruise at 70MPH with the RPM in the range of 2200.

In your case, it appears SWEETK30 (above) determined that a 4.56 ratio gives values that I feel would be best (for me anyway, YMMV).

My $0.02.
