Hey guys I have a 99 Tahoe and have 26's on it. I'm planning to regear but can't make a final decision. A rear end shop recommended 410's but I did some research and been hearing about 456 gears. I'm not sure how tall the tires are their about 305/30/26 from what I read their equal to or a little shy of 33's. I'm using this vehicle for daily driving town and freeway. Any thoughts and recommendations? They truck feels really sluggish and slow because of the heavy wheels. Any brands you guys have experience with ? The mechanic said Auburn is a good brand and to stay away from Yukon. Should I go lsd or lockers I want a posi to do burn outs and stuff. Motors stock

I only asked as he doesn't sound sure about the size.

Anyone know the stock gear ratio ? I'm not sure if I have 342 or the g80. I think I want to go lsd because lockers are too loud for me and I will think it's a nusiance. I also heard lockers eat up tires pretty. Fast

×OGR=NGR
New Tire Size ÷ Old Tire Size
× Old Gear Ratio = New Gear Ratio

Here's mine:
245's and 3.73
Installing 315's
245's are 30.47, 315's are 34.6

34.6÷30.47
×3.73 = 4.25:1
Well, they make a 4.27, but I'm running up to 4.56 for towing reasons, the extra weight of heavy tires, lift kit, etc. I'll just reprogram the speedo later.

A lot of the guys in the off world say if overdrive trans then go deep .

So if your doing 33-35" tires do 4.56 for sure .

4.56 @ 70mph is 2260 rpm with your listed tire size .

4.88 @ 70mph is 2470 rpm .

5.13 @ 70mph is 2550 rpm .

Deeper gear help hold the gear selected better with big tires and more so towing .

Say you had 3.42 and a 245/75/16 stock . @ 70mph thats 1850 rpm . If 3.73 its 2015 rpm . So jumping that few extra rpm with the DEEP gear helps a lot and lets the engine and trans not work as hard since the deeper gear is a LOOOOOOONGER prybar to multiply the force better and work more efficient.
