Rawhide and The Burb

Still haven't gotten the codes checked; too busy with the show prep and then the event. Rawhide performed well, but 1 ton truck suspension and very rough streets in downtown Houston are not a good mix!
Finished unloading the box truck today, and I had several totes of shop manuals and car magazines, and other swap meet stuff, that needed to go back to my shop building. These totes fit nicely in the bed, stacked, and with ~600 pounds of load(my best guess, the totes of manuals and mags are probably 50-60 pounds each and I have 4, but the other totes and boxes are relatively light) we noticed that the truck rides like a Cadillac with some load in it. Much more stable, and it's already pretty solid feeling thanks to the extra long wheelbase. I had read about this, but my first time experiencing it....

Making things shiny again on the big fella.... this was with liquid Brasso and a folded up paper towel,then polish with an old T shirt. Bumpers and brush guard tomorrow if it doesn't rain.... depends on what else people want me to do too!

New battery for Rawhide today, after we had to get jumped to leave for work this morning! Power locks are working again, so I think the relay or circuit breaker that controls them must have a bit much resistance or something, that a less than optimal performing battery won't overcome. Or the computer cuts it off when the power is marginal?

And it starts w/o foot on the gas, and fires off almost immediately, like it should, and did when we first got it. Voltmeter goes right over to the middle/straight up too. We'd noticed it was just a bit slower to start the last week or so, but some of those mornings were cold.

Yeah with hd’s they made to be loaded with something to ride as you’d expect I was at a job out in South Dakota and they gave us a brand new f-250/350 and it rode terribly bouncing down the new highway I have had shocks on my Escalade it was all I could find at the time so she rides lil rougher than should but when she’s loaded up she just cruises smooth down the road!

Yeah I do want to get shocks on this big boy though (I'm sure they're original). We used Monroe Gas Magnums on our Burbs and they helped the ride and handling a bunch. Just gotta price and find em, get it in the budget....

Went by the collision repair shop today, and we might(fingers crossed!) get Burb back tomorrow afternoon. Service writer said the windshield frame repair is done and painted, so they'll be putting the glass in tomorrow. The front end is back together and looking good, couldn't look closely but I did get a pic of him and a sharp square body truck there too.

Burb is not coming home today! Their glass installer couldn't get by the shop today but I'm told he'll be there first thing in the morning. I'm to call them after 1 o'clock tomorrow afternoon and see where they're at. A few trim bits and details still need to be taken care of, they said.

I called at 1:30 this afternoon and was told," it's not fully together yet, call back in a couple hours," so I suggested that we pick it up Monday after I'm done with work for the day. That way they're not rushing; they said that was cool and agreed to it. They want me to be happy with the work too....
