Saturday at the shop building, both of these big boys.
Burb went into the collision repair shop Monday, we should know by Thursday afternoon how long he'll be there. There's at least $500 in damage that the pix Allstate got didn't show, according to the service writer at the shop. So at least $2200, amazing that the truck is still fully functional other than the corner marker not working. Hope to get the windshield done while he's in there too.

Drove Rawhide to Austin yesterday, went on 610 to 290 and rode that all the way up. I think the big fella enjoyed getting to stretch his legs a bit. No trouble/effort required to get to 70, not much to get to 80/85! And it's really stable and solid feeling at speed too. We Uber-ed in town(event venue is in downtown Austin so not huge truck friendly!) and the midsize cars felt like you were really going fast, much more noticeable than in the truck.
Rawhide did very well, until we got into Austin at evening drive time and traffic. Then the idle got a little bit rough, like "Mom y'all know I don't tolerate this sitting around in traffic, I was made to run and that's what I want to do". The CEL came on, so we'll stop by my cousin's O'Reilly's in Giddings and get him to check it.

Well...too late to go see my cousin, but we'll get the code checked tomorrow. Gassed up in Bastrop, and in 210 miles of mostly highway driving (a lot at 65-75 or more) Rawhide got just under 12 mpg. Would have been better had we not had serious traffic in Austin yesterday evening and today around lunchtime. And going slower would have helped too. But when you're going 75 and getting passed, hard to want to go slower....

Just got home to the RV park and unloaded. Used a quarter tank according to the gauge, came home on Texas 71 to I 10 to Texas 36 to 90A. Old truck ran great, and the CEL went off. So codes are stored, just gotta check em.... But I think it did very well, for a truck that hasn't been on the highway much. New headlights helping a lot but I still need more light on the front.

Oh and guess what I saw in Sealy at the Walmart? Didn't get any pix because the lot is fairly dark.... I was coming out of the store and saw what looked like a 400 with the high beams on. Got closer to it, and saw, yeah it's a later style Chevy grille, see the front end, first door, second door, and then 8 lug wheels and a looong bed! Just like my truck but the dark green (what I would call shamrock green or forest green). Even had loud pipes....
Not sure exactly what year it is, but I know in '97 they only made a little over 15,000 of the Chevy CCLB in '97.

My 5.7 powered 3/4 ton consistently got 12 mpg when it was stock. It gets 14-15 mpg now, with a tune and exhaust.

I would bet that your idle/check engine light is something minor.
That's what I think too, it runs too well!
Are first and second gear on an '80(4L80E) pretty tall numerically? It's not Corvette off the line, but will move out very well if you put your foot in it hard enough.

No, its actually the opposite. 4l60Es have a deep first gear, 4l80Es do not.

4L60E - 3.06, 1.63, 1.00, .70

4L80E - 2.48, 1.48, 1.00, .75

Rearend gearing and tire size makes the difference in the 80E.

Glad you had a good trip and made it home safely!

Okay thanks, good to know since I have one of each trans behind my 5.7s. I think the tire size on the pickup may be a little larger than stock because we've noticed that the speedometer over reads by like 5 mph at 65-70....

I bet you could get more, that traffic sucks though. I got 13mpg from Houston to florida. I might see 14 or possibly 15mpg but there better be no wind or traffic to achieve those numbers lol. Glad your trip went well. I bet your ses is because of the o2 sensors.. mine just turned off too and it's o2 , sensor 1 b 1
