I was really afraid the old threads would be stretched and hoping that the pan threads would be ok. Once it broke loose, it unthreaded just fine and the new drain plug went in smooth and tightened down as should.

Yup just another reason I refuse to work on other peoples vehicles…
I don't work on anything that I choose not to do. I let them know up front it is my way or they are gone. I am getting ready, on Tuesday, to go to my local AZ manager's house. to see why her 1994 Cherokee will crank and not start. OBD1. I will be lost but will check some obvious concerns and see what happens. I am hoping that if I am successful, I will get a commercial account parts pricing out of this.

So, I was looking at the fuel fill cap today and it looked old and tattered and beat up. before it got to the point of causing a code, I decided to get a new one. I looked up a Genuine GM one at RA. part number GT330. With the shipping and 5% RA discount, was gonna be about $35. I then punched in the same part number at my local AZ and the initial price was a little more but I get a military 10% discount and it will be $26.09 BUT when I punched in the part number, AZ also told me I needed a housing part #15289921: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=7230952&cc=0&pt=1001719&jsn=1708

It is the cup area where the fuel fill tube is and where the little cap tether attaches. AZ was not "suggesting" it, they were saying I needed it. You just gotta look out for yourself.

By the way, I got the pic and link at RA but when I punched in the GM part # at AZ, it was "Not Available".

Weird. The cap I got for my 2006 forever ago doesn't have that tether; it's got the folded plastic "hinge" style sort of like the washer jug cap uses.

I wonder why they say you need the housing? Seems like you already have it since that's what the filler neck attaches to the beside with.

It's an additional sale and they hope you fall for it. But, to say you need it and then not actually sell it, is just plain weird.

Every now and then, I check at Indeed for service writer/advisor positions and have been called in to 3 different local shops for interviews and hired at all 3, BUT, 2 were in sections of town with lots of homeless in the area and 1 had an owner that was a turd and his other advisor was a guy that had a rep in town as a rip off. I do fine at home and would go back to running shops but only for the right money and shop and owner and neighborhood.....etc. Had 3 other dealers reach out but I said no without even an interview.

I have another hit on my resume at a shop that is in an adjoining town that has different/way stricter homeless laws and you just do not see homeless in that town. Got the notice today and will see what happens after weekend.

good luck hope it works out.
Being retired, the position and pay would have to be a great fit. Their pay range is $55k to $80K. With my experience and certifications, there is no way I work 5 days a week for less than $70k to $75k a year. One of the shops that close to the homeless population had a range of $45k to $70k and he thought I should be at $45k to $50k to start. I walked.

The thing about this shop that is now looking, is that they had an ad at Indeed and at CL for the same position and then the ad was gone and this was about 5 months ago. Now the ad is up again. Guy either told them to screw off or he did not have the ability.
