Hey guys, i'm a new member and this is my first K (or C) series truck its a 1995 K1500 5.7 tbi automatic trans. I am about to fix the front diff actuator and was just wanting some insight as to what the popular opinion is for trans fluid brand because i think i am going to drain the old and possibly change the trans filter also. Any advice is much appreciated and i will most likely go with the most common if i am lucky enough to get multiple opinions.
Also wanna say thank you for the people on this site as it was crucial in me fixing this truck when it broke down not long after i bought it.

One last thing, if i have to replace the actuator would you guys recommend the same oem kind or electric if that is even an option. My 4x4 shifter is in the floor and not a push button so i dont know if the electric is a possibility. TIA

Best regards,
Lawson95k

I've never seen an encoder motor on a manually shifted transfer case.
There's always a time for firsts so never say never, lol.

That said, im thinking of the NP246 Tcase encoder motors so my comment should help anyone reading this while contemplating/looking for replacements on those 246 tcases.

Gotcha, you were being altruistic.

The manually shifted t-case in a half ton should be the 241, yes?
243 electric?
246 w/Auto mode in my Denali?

You are talking about the actuator on the front diff that actually "engages" the front diff when you pull the shifter on the floor into 4WD right?

If so, I suggest a company called 4X4 Posi-Lok (no it is not a posi LOL). They sell a kit to mechanically engage the front diff via a cable and rod from inside the cab. It makes shifting into 4WD a two step process...pull the shifter on the floor, then pull the lever/cable, but then you're off, with 4WD every time. I installed this on my 1993 K1500 Suburban when I first purchased it, and I am now on my 3rd winter with the Posi-Lok installed.

For the transmission you should be ok with DexVI as it is backward compatible to DexIII. I use it in my 97 Tahoe and K3500. It is not good for the transfer case though.
The Dex/Mercon is likely the one for the T-case. It's what I use for my Tahoe and K3500.

On the actuator I replaced mine with the same stock part, thermal one, and it has been fine for a number of years now.
