I want to take an extra step of precaution here before assembly....
94 k1500 5.7
I have cam, lifters, pushrods out.....
intake OFF.....
Can I use old distributor priming tool to run atf through the galleries as it sits as a "flush"?
If my understanding is correct, flow is pan/pump/filter/galleries....
So if I run priming tool will the oil/atf/ whatever sort of flush those galleries out?.....
I'm just wanting to make sure there's nothing in them that may be detrimental......
Or is I crazy and it's a waste of time?....
Mainly just unsure about not having cam/lifters/intake etc in place....
Thanks guys

sounds like a waste of time. only way to truly cleans then out is full tear down of block and a rifle brush. then a proper cleaning, hot tank, jet wash or even pressure washer

One more thing, how much oil needs to be in it to even be able to get oil up through there?

Yeah that's not happening..
At least I can say it's not happening unless this camshaft don't make it....

it's not going to push oil through the galleries without a cam in place
That was what I was wondering thanks......
So with cam and lifters (no pushrods) will I get flow or does it need the pressure from the valves to create that?

If it needs a flush, everything should come out to ensure what you're flushing isn't still trapped inside. Why are you flushing? Metal shavings? Heavy sludge?

A lot of glitter and debris gets trapped behind the cam bearings too. If you don't remove them you'll still have contamination.
