In process of rebuilding my front suspension, I removed the upper control arms and was surprised to find that half of the eight holes total for the UCA bolts still had knockouts in them, but the other four holes, were already oval holes from the factory (see attached photos). In other words, I had four round holes, and four oval holes. What's really odd is that it appeared to have come that way from the factory - it does not appear that there were ever knockouts in those four to begin with. The truck did not have the eccentric cam bolts.

Has anyone ever come across this? It seems very odd that the holes would be half-and-half (half round, half oval). The outer holes were the ones that had not been knocked out, for some unknown (to me) reason.

I bought the special knockout tool, and had mixed results. Two knockouts came out cleanly (in one piece). The other two holes only punched out partly, but an air hammer chisel easily took care of the rest.

Another minor issue: one of the factory knockouts was punched off-center from the round hole. So, I know have more work to do, since the bolt will be cocked if I don't fix the mis-aligned holes. I will need to use a dremel to take material off the top of the oval hole, and a MIG welder to build up the bottom of the hole, by about 1/8". Someone got a little sloppy at the factory, now it makes more work for me. Has this happened to anyone else?

Both those issues are completely normal.

They only have the knock outs in 4 holes and when you punch them out they don't always come out clean.

But have never had an issue and would just run it
