OBS roof rack

I've removed the cross bars from my roof rack, and wanted to know if any one's painted them???
Thinking of satin black.
With proper prep will it last?

There is usually a rubber strip on them. If you paint, then after the paint dries good, install a rubber strip on top with some contact cement, then reinstall the rack, you should be good. Without the rubber, whatever you put on the rack, will rub the paint off.
