As some of you know, I'm swapping a 4500 into my K1500. I should the transmission in the next day or so but I will still need the housing. I saw some on Summit and ebay that appear to be the correct ones but just need some input so I get the correct one. Also, it's a 94 model that I'm converting to internal slave.

Here are a few I am looking at:

Before I look at those links, and my memory/knowledge on NV4500's may not be good enough to help on them anyway - are you aware that the input bearing retainer design (and case!) changed between the external and internal slave designs? They don't swap.

If you're willing to do the machine work to the case to enlarge the hole and obtain the internal slave bearing retainer then I guess you're good to go. It personally would make me nervous to try getting it 100% right so that I didn't have problems. When I built my '94 3500HD I had a trans shop combine parts from '94 and '96 transmissions so that I had the '96 case (and bellhousing of course) with internal slave setup, but swapped over the rear tailshaft housing from the '94 trans so I had the HD-specific parking brake setup needed.

Yes I am aware of the differences and I do plan on making the necessary changes. I forgot to put that in there.

EDIT: I forgot to put in I am aware of the differences between the years and I will be modifying accordingly. Also the engine is the 4.3L.

Awesome, another little engine big transmission swap!

I thought my red C1500 with the 4.3L that I swapped a 4L80E into would hold the title for slowest half ton but you may have me beat when you get done.

I swapping for towing, not for speed. And besides you can't really powershift the 4500.

Well, I guess you could, but probably shouldn't...

What are the ratios of the NV4500? Those came with the 3/4 ton+ trucks, right? Also on the Dodge Rams 2500/3500 of the era? What axle ratio do you have OP?

I'm guessing some really steep 1st gear? I think the 4.3s of these light duty trucks should of come 3.73s or 4.10s standard. Maybe the Express 2500 with the 4.3/4L80e did have that combo?

Yes they came in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. My 4500 is a 94 so it should be 6.34:1 and I have 3.73 gears out back. I know with all that combination that my engine will be screamin' down the interstate at 70. At least that's what I expect. Won't know till I get everything back together.

Screaming? Nah.. 3.73's out back are pretty tame compared to 4.63 or 5.13 in the 3500HD's. The 225/70/19.5 tire is about 32" so that helped negate a little of the steep rear gear but not much. You still get 0.73 5th gear...
