Np246.... keep finding conflicting info.

I have a 98 Tahoe with an np246 transfer case. After watching a few videos I decided to convert it to manual shift. I have the linkage all built, but the shift positions don’t make sense. I was expecting to have 2HI - 4HI - Neutral - 4LO. Instead I seem to have hi-neut-low. The linkage isn’t binding, and at either end I can move the shifter a bit and it feels like I’m pressing on a spring inside the case.

Do 2H and 4H share a position, and I have to actuate the front myself for 4HI and 4LO?

There is no 2WD position on the older 246.

So I’m not crazy. It’s just 3 positions and 4wd is dictated by the front actuator
