I have a ‘98 k2500 truck that I have removed all the IFS out from under the front and installed a Dana 60 in its place. I also installed a SYE to the np241 that was in the truck. The truck is a factory NV4500/NP241.

The issue I am having is with shifting into 4wd while driving. While the truck is still, I can shift to 4hi-N-4lo with no issues. But trying to throw it into 4wd while the truck is moving seems impossible.

Wondering if anyone has had this issue or knows the solution.

Thanks,
Dylan

Well, it hit me for some reason to give something a try…and it worked. When I’m cruising, if I hit the clutch it’ll go into 4wd.

My other truck is a 3500, it is also a manual transmission truck but has the Borg Warner T-case, I don’t have to press the clutch to engage 4wd.

I’ve never had a NP241, is that the normal way to engage 4wd? To press the clutch when the truck is moving?

My truck is an auto with the np241. I've always had to blip the throttle while pulling back on the lever to get 4 hi while driving.

I thought the 241 was essentially a 1500 t-case. All the 8 lug trucks I've seen were NP261 or NP263. My 2500 Suburban had the 263. (3 being electrically actuated)

O.P. is yours a 6-lug 2500? It should still be shift on the fly.

It’s an 8 lug truck. I thought the 261 and 263 were all time 4wd. Pretty sure the 241 was the standard in a 2500

The 241 in my '88 and '89 are lever on the floor.
The 243 in my Denali and the 263 in the 'Burban are push button w/auto, but still have 2wd options. There is no AWD in the 400 series.

Either way, they are shift on the fly. Are you driving with the hubs locked or unlocked on your solid axle?

I’ve tried both scenarios, hubs locked and unlocked…same thing.

Is it due to the fact that all electronics are no longer in the system? Like the 4wd actuator from the factory front diff and what not?

With the old system, it takes a lil time for the front actuator to engage the front axle. So, when you push forward for 4 hi, the t-case will engage first. Then the front. but with urs, since the front is already engaged, it might bind or just be a pain engage. The 241 is pretty much the same case from 1/2 to 3/4, but has bigger input and output depending on application. The 243 is the electronic shift version, the 246 and 263 or whatever it is, is the autocrap version. My 99 has the 241, the 2000 has the 243. The 2000 doesn't have a front shaft yet, so dunno if it works.....
