Need help with black box behind glove box

Hey y’all I’m trying to figure out the wiring harness on my 97 Cheyenne. It had a 4.3l in it and currently swapping it out. I’m trying to figure out what the black box with a chip inside it is that passes through the passenger side firewall on the main wiring harness.. can someone help me out here?

What is that thing? Where's it go and what's it do??

Oh it's a fuel gauge buffering module. It is Velcro'd in behind the glove box. It works with the sending unit to provide a fuel level. Awesome spot y'all. Love it!!
