If the castle nut is too low to intercept the cotter pin, in my driveway it'd get a spacer/washer to boost the nut to proper height...

...AFTER I was sure that the male taper in the stud is compatible with the female taper on the part it's secured into.

This is not something I'd leave to a fancy spring-pin.

THANKS for these grease charts - I'd have to look at composition of what I have. I looked a while back (for not so many types as in these charts) and the only thing that stood out was not to mix green Lucas marine grease with anything else - I don't know what it's made of. I've used it on wheel bearings and cleaned off all old grease with solvent before repacking. I didn't look much but, curious what would happen if mixed.
