How about the 6 speed stick that came behind the 8.1/Duramax? I think fondly of one of those short lived beasts.

I think the GCWR was less with the 6 spd than the NV4500? The NV4500 was longer lived. The clutch was too.

The 6 spd was less than the Allison.

I'm a newb to this forum but not trucks and towing so I'm going jump in. I have an 06 2500 suburban with the 6.0, a couple weeks ago I decided to tow my 4000 lb boat with my 1994 blazer 5.7 tbi just for the heck of it . No comparison. The blazer did a fair job once it was rolling and on flat ground but I would never tow any distance with it. So I would have to say to the OP it would be cheaper and safer to find a good used high mileage 3/4 ton with the LS platform . My 2500 Burb had 190k in great condition and I picked it up for less than 8k. Its what we use for vacations and any trips with the family. Only downside is the gas mileage.

Boat behind the burb and the blazer, I know its not a fair comparison but I'm about to spend 5k or more for an engine swap and brake upgrades on the blazer, I will have more money in it than the burb and it still wont tow as well .
