I'm trying to fully understand what will happen when I install lowering keys. I'd like to bring down the front of my '97 K2500 about 2". But if I have it right, the torsion bars will pretty much stay the same distance from the ground, but the frame will drop toward them. Unfortunately it looks like there's not much more than 1" clearance between the frame and the bar right now. Is there something else that happens that would allow the frame to get lower? Thanks...

the frame to torsion bar dimension is an irrelevant dimnesion. torsion bars twist to change ride height but the bar stays in its linear position as its hard attached in two places. that doesnt move unless you do something like torsion bar relocaters but those are for very specific lifted purposes. the adjustment of the key in turn moves ride height of the lower control arm which changes vehicle height.

so TLDR

frame to torsoin bar doesnt matter. changes very minimally not worth mentioning.

key index and the amount of loading of the key via the bolt directly influences ride height wether thats z height or lifted/lowered the obvious changes all apply to steering/suspension/cv geometry.

torsion bar to ground will change based on key index and load of the key/bar/bolt assembly.

by using 2" lowering keys the torsoin bar will be able to "relax" the lower control arm down further before its stock intent to hold vehicle up. whys this differ from stock? in stock form if you pull the bolt out say the arm of that torsoin key rests on the crossmember. the truck height is only so low correct? now if that indexed arm moves out of the way (reindexing) you can figuratively lower the vehicle even further. the opposite also applies.

still TLDR, sorry

at least this is what ive understood from your post.

Yes your t bars will stay in the same location in relation to the frame. The lowering keys will allow the bars to relax enough that the suspension will lower the truck.

One more question, should I get the front end realigned after doing the 2" drop with the keys?
