Next was were the new oil cooler lines, filter, and fittings. Ended up using the stock components rather than plumbing in some steel braided units. My main priority at this point was to just get the truck back to spec, and running cherry. The lines and fittings were toast, and leaked all over the place...

So...after I installed the radiator, a new radiator cap, and thermostat, I began having overheating problems. I went down the rabbit hole trying to figure out what went wrong, since it did not overheat before the radiator install.

I must have gone through 20 gallons of distilled water thinking I had air in the system. I made the mistake of using a plastic gasket instead of a paper gasket at the thermostat housing, and found a leak. And I thought, that's it! But still, that wasn't the problem.

I gradually went through the coolant system, checking for leaks, and replacing the old components that should've all been replaced from the get go (e.g. hoses, thermostat housing, etc.). What can I say? I didn't want to spend money if I didn't have to.

In the end, it turned out to be the intake manifold gaskets.

Replacing the intake manifold gaskets, and removing the heater hose coupling. I sprayed it down with Liquid Wrench, and let it sit overnight. I still had to use a breaker bar and the handle from my floor jack to break it loose.

Wow...I can't believe it's been over 9 months since I updated this thread. Life events sort of took me in another direction...

I didn't mention it, but in March 2018, I lowsided on my superbike doing 70 around a turn. Fkd me up real good (e.g., broken ribs, clavicle, collapsed lung, etc). So I didn't do any serious wrenching until May 2018. Even then, I was limited.

I bring this up because prior to my accident, I had decided to change the tranny fluid while I tried to figure out the overheating issue. Unfortunately, the accident happened, and I had to leave the truck sitting there on jack stands until I could crawl under it in May 2018 - which was extremely painful btw lol.

Anyway, the truck sitting there for about 6 or 7 months somehow wasn't good for it, as I would later find out...
