All it needs is a..... BOOM!, project creep.

I bought a classic Mini for my then fiancee. It was her dream car, right hand drive, 4 speed, minilight 10" wheels, etc.

The test drive was flawless. We drove it 30 miles home and the rear main started leaking. The engine and transmission run on the same 5 quarts of oil because the oil pan is the transmission case. There is a clutch cover on the end that can only be removed with the engine out.

While we have the engine out let's do a header. You know, we should do disc brakes while the front end is apart. Disc's require 12" wheels. What do you mean that we can't find a 12" chrome wheel? How about 13s? Wrong pattern? How about adapters? We found wheels! Not in chrome, darn. Hey, our new 13" chrome wheels look nice but we need fender flares. We don't like the 3 sets of fiberglass ones that we bought? Let's build some! Three trailer fenders with the right radius could probably be built into steel "ground effects" and flares. Let's paint the car too! Hey, there is a Cooper S 1275! Did you realize that there is a custom built 5 speed available from England? Wouldn't coil springs and sway bars be better than these rubber donuts? I bet that 1275 would run really good with a Weber and a Pertronix ignition. You know, we really ought to do the interior too. Those Corbeau seats sure look nice...

Yes that is project creep. That is also the story on how I spent $35k on a rotisserie build on a car that when I got rid of her, I got rid of the car. I traded it straight across for a 9 year old Corvette. A Corvette that I drove while dating a girl. A girl who became my wife. My wife who now owns a GTO. A GTO that needed a pilot bearing. That also should replace the clutch, maybe an LS7 clutch with an aluminum flywheel. Hmmm the input shaft is torn up, a Magnum F T56 is nice. Oh that needs a different driveshaft. Carbon fiber is good. Oh wait.... Under the hood isn't stock, the wheels and tires aren't stock, the suspension isn't stock... All I'm saying is...

It's a sickness I tell ya, but no one is interested in a cure. ;)
