You are correct, the 648 locks are not offset. However, the 787 retainers are 0.050" offset versus the stock retainers. So using 787 retainers and 648 locks on 26918 valve springs should provide an installed height of 1.75". This is still 0.050" less than the Comp recommended 1.8" installed height, but I'm thinking it should still be ok. Thoughts ?

Ahh, I wasn't aware the retainers were offset.

Anyone have any idea deck height on the GM replacement crate motors like the HT383E?
I would theink the ZZ cam -a little smaller than the Hot LT4 cam might be a good middle of the road choice also.

Not a big fan of the ZZ3 or ZZ4 cam here. Too much exhaust duration. The cam used in the ZZZ-ZZ2 was a better performing cam than the ZZ3+. I like the GM 845 and the newer 151' 357 hp SPO 350 cam. The SPO cam is a little smaller in both duration and lift than the Hotcam but it is on a 108 LSA. It is 215/223 @ 0.050 and 0.473 lift, almost as if GM designed it to work in an otherwise stock L31, lol.
