I bought a cable from Moates and it worked for me. Probably can find it cheaper but they did have some “how to” stuff on site at the time which I found helpful
Here's where I got mine.

Edit: here is the link without the http:// in case the other one doesn't work for you.

UPDATE: Issue is resolved! It was a bad torque converter. It had no stall speed which was lugging the motor down causing the ecu to compensate out of range. The tranny specialist said he had never had a converter that seemed to drive so well but was so bad. Once he got it out he was suprised that the truck drove as well as it did. It also caused several clutch and steels to burn up. So $1500 later new HD converter and all new clutches and new steels. I had to reset the base idle in gear and all seems good. Once driven around and put back in park it idles at 850 with 13 counts on the iac. In gear it idles at 750 with 18 counts. FINALLY!! I might be able to refine that after I drive it awhile and get the park rpms down a little but I am happy as hell to have it where it is. I drives better than it ever did since I bought it last October. Thanx to all you guys for the help, info and suggestions. Maybe this will help someone else in the future. Doubt it but you never know.

Great job pursuing this to a successful solution instead of going to a carb! :waytogo: In this case one would conclude, if you switched to a carb, your issue would still prevail, I love it!

Now let's see some pictures of the big red truck hauling something. :)
^^^ X2, we love pics!

Just curious what led you to look at the trans for a issue? Glad you got it fixed.
After changing everything and fixing all the usual suspects it kept running better but the problem still remained. And when I got a proper scan tool it showed that when put into gear the rpms dropped very low and the iac open all the way up to compensate. It just started to feel like the motor was being loaded. Spoke with a few people and one found an old service bulletin that showed converters were an issue on a few of the same issue. Had a specialist test and confirm the same. Rolled the dice and it was the problem. Not a typical problem but if you knew me you would know that I'm the guy who gets the issue that no one has ever heard of or thought of. Lol. That being said it makes me think outside of the box more than most.

Here ya go guys! You asked for a pic of it loaded and here ya go!! lol Went and picked up this old 1984 C20 Railroad repair service truck. The Ramp truck did good. Went 35 miles down the highway at 62mph no problem. Ran a little hot in slow traffic but it was 91 with a real feel of 101F out so I ain't complaining.

That's one neat ride!!! I would love to drive that down the road with a nostalgia funny car on the ramp, heading to a small-time dragstrip (Cordova, Nebraska Motorplex, Great Bend...).

All I need is the truck and the funny car :)

Does the AC still work well?

Thanx
A/C works good.
It would be kool to haul a car to the drags. You definitely don't see that anymore.
