Wind up would be my guess. however if that fluid is only 4k old Id say you might have smoked a bearing in the diff somwhere. Its doubtful that the gears are egged but anything is possible also a bearing in the front diff usually wont make noise in 2wd because there is no engine load on it but most likely when engaged.
