Newbie
Hello to all, I’m new to the forum and I’d like to share a new build I’m starting with my ‘94 K1500 Suburban.
I live in San Antonio, but spend my free time in the South Texas brush country. I’ve built a handful of jeeps to use down there, but this time I’ll be building an open air family cruising rig as we have outgrown everything else that can hold us.
So far my plans are
-remove roof, pillars and glass from bottom of windows-up.
-fabricate a shade canopy consisting of two 2” steel tubes running from trimmed A Pillars to just above the taillights. Ladder frame the two main tubes. Hoop the C pillars into the new roof. Brace the B pillars through the floor to the frame. Cover with boat canvas. Install fold down windshield between main tubes. Hopefully the canopy provides enough structure for the now 1/2 doors.
-remove all carpet/velour trim from interior.
-Sand Tan colored bedliner inside + out
-converting the fancy Silverado door panels to Cheyenne manual’s.
-Rough Country 2.5” lift.
-255/85r16 Toyo M55’s
-16” smoothie steel wheels
-install used Ranch Hand Legend bumpers front and rear.
My intention is to have a vehicle that gets a mess of kids out in the air, more comfortably and quieter than one could with a Polaris or Mule.
Finding the manual door panels for the back was a booger, but I’ve managed to get all the parts together to get this thing done (still hunting for the driver side rear door handle bezel if anybody has one!). Starting this thing soon to be ready for when cooler weather returns to the area.
I’m happy to have found this great forum of y’all’s that has so much info about these awesome trucks. Looking forward to this build. Thanks for having me.
