notice how the ones I posted above have "two" black wires? wonder why

I also have a coil setup where it uses a metal tab thats shaped ever so that when its put into the connector cavity, its also covering where the ground wire screws into, and you just secure it with a screw/bolt on the corner of the coil iron thing.

I also have a non ground wire coil in the picture above, its on the right :)


In my first picture you can see a well worn advance weight thats in my 1980 gmc , they used ot be rusty and stuck. chased an intermittent high idle that couldnt kick down or lower But would eventually lower if you played with throttle in quick snaps (more than a single one like a fast idle kickup) turned out the weights were just staying advanced outward and werent coming home lol

I had something like that with my 60 el camino. It had a points distributor. The weighs were stuck and would not advance. So it would stumble badly unless you really slowly advanced the throttle. Once unstuck it was just fine.

Interesting some like the plastic bushings. I have not had an issue with the good hardened factory or Moroso weights and center plates. The cheesy Mr Gasket recurve is a bad joke by comparison. The advance pins will wear but as of a few years ago Standard Ignition still had the pins. DG50 was the part number. Had to dig out the paper catalog when I managed an Oreilly to find them. I grabbed quite a few of them for my own use.
I like the idea because of climate, its humid summers here, i want to be able to let things sit and not corrode to the surface below

The plastic glide piece would prevent them from sticking to the metal below and even if rusty, still can slide OK ish over the plastic

And they can be replaced if worn
youre not supposed to grease the weights or oil them, but i cleaned them up well and used .. something.. maybe it was just deep creep coating , to prevent them rusting badly so fast

Do you have a reliable source for New plastic glide pieces ?

The second black wire--and the stamped-sheetmetal "tab" accomplish the same thing. The second black wire is not part of the coil, it's just a harness connecting the middle (ground) terminal of the three-wire connector on the side of the distributor cap to the coil frame.

RR201 and RR204 in the parts-list above.
