Check your fuel pressure, you may have a plugged filter. The stock poppets may be junk too. You're not going to see much north of 12, I can tell you that much. My mpg was down 1 to a plugged filter years ago.

454 or 350?

My k2500 with a 350 gets 15 in the summer if it isn't windy and I drive nicely. 12-13 is more realistic.

Moving a brick through the air with heavy running gear is expensive.

I need to check my filter then, I noticed i while ago that my truck would just studder a month or two ago when i was driving it would just seem like all power was lost then come right back then after I’d get on it, it would stop i kinda figured that’s what it was because in my friends jeep grand chreokee his filter was plugged up and every time he would turn it would die for a second then come back on

I never really drive on the highway unless family is in the hospital occasionally i will drive to the big city but like you said just highway miles never happen for me I mainly just drive to school and into town and that’s about it

the 4.10 gears and 4L80E in your truck are going to keep the mileage down a bit.
My '98 suburban with a 5.7 and 4L06E gets 16+ MPG in town and 18MPG on the highway

I didn't notice a change in economy when I went from 3.73 to 4.10 or when I swapped my 4L60 for a 4L80. Or when I put the blower on. It seems to get what it gets.
