Hello to All,

First time posting. I am replace the frame on my 1998 K1500 and replacing all the rusted/worn out parts while it is apart. I have a $4000 budget and am well within that number.

My question is exactly which forged lower control arms will fit this model? I have conflicting information, based on Hollander Interchange numbers. It seems the '99 K2500 Pickup/Suburban and the '99 Silverado 2500 pickups are different. Here are the interchange numbers I have found from hollanderparts.com:

512-01592L 1999 K2500 Pickup/Suburban Lower Control Arm, Front Left, Forged (47.89Mm Ball Joint)
512-01591R 1999 K2500 Pickup/Suburban Lower Control Arm, Front Right, Forged (47.89Mm Ball Joint)

512-01215L 1999 Silverado 2500 Lower Control Arm, Front Left
512-01516R 1999 Silverado 2500 Lower Control Arm, Front Right

It appears these forged LCA's will replace the stamped steel arms:
512-01592L - 1996-2000 K2500 Pickup/1996-1999 K2500 Suburban Left LCA
512-01591R - 1996-2000 K2500 Pickup/1996-1999 K2500 Suburban Right LCA

What changed on the 2000 Suburban and 1999 Silverado 2500? I find a lot of these at the local wrecking yards.

Please let me know if I interpret the above correctly.

I am storing my photos @ https://1998k1500framereplacement.shutterfly.com/. I use them for my photobooks, always free, ~$8.00 shipping.

Thanks,
Peter

Hey Pete, what's your status on this forged LCA project? I'm curious because I'm looking to replace stamped LCAs for forged ones and in a sticky on here Brother Al posted pictures of a forged 1500 LCA. That LCA looks suspiciously like a 2000 K2500 LCA listed on RockAuto.

In 99 the 1500 was redesigned.

The 99-00 2500-3500 trucks, Denali, Escalade, 99 Suburban, Yukon, Tahoe and 00 Tahoe Z71 were all based on the typical 88-98 GMT400 platform.

Allow me to restate: I was under the impression all 400 LCAs were interchangeable.

I could be wrong but I thought that the 8 lug ones were different from the 6 lug ones.

I'd like some closure on this as I long believed this to not be true. That said, I know the front track width is substantially different from 6 to 8 lug.

Hi All,
I purchased some used LCA from completerecyclinggroup in MD fo $60 ea + free shipping. The important thing is the Hollander Interchange #, this way any good recycling yard can find the correct part.

For the forged arms, search for these interchange #'s;

Left LCA = 512-01592L
Right LCA = 512-01591R

The LCA's I received were in excellent condition. I did replace the bushings and the lower ball joint, as I was rebuilding the entire front end. Those part #'s are (I bought these @ Rockauto)
for the forged arms;

Lower Control Arm Front Bushing = ACDelco 45G11076
Lower Control Arm Rear Bushing = ACDelco 45G9213
Lower Ball Joint = Moog K6509

They fit like a glove, and I had no problem aligning the front end. I also replaced the upper arms with Moog parts RK620720, RK620719.

Hope this helps!
Peter

I have finish replacing the frame my pickup. There is NO rust on the cab or box, and I only had 79000 miles on it. This was a lot of work for a retired, bad back SOB, but it saved me over $30k on a new truck. Pictures to follow some day.

You know what I need to do is measure the distance from the LCA bushing where the torsion bar engages the arm. For some reason I have it in my head that 98 6 luggers mount the bar farther inboard for less mechanical advantage. This seems to confirm my belief that the HD arms work on the LD chassis.

Did this actually work? Thinking of going to forged myself. Also found a k2500 6” lift for stupid cheap I want to put in my truck.
