Engine backfires and sputters when floored

I have 97 K1500 with the 5.7 vortec and when I floor it the truck hits 3k rpm and starts backfiring like crazy and dying out. regular driving is just fine and it only happens when I floor it. No check engine light temp and oil pressure look fine.
Any ideas?

Normally one would check the fuel pressure at idle and under load before throwing parts at it.

I have not thrown any parts at it so I don't know where that came from. but thanks for the suggestion

It does it while stopped in nuetral too so I don't believe its an issue that has to do with load

Fuel pump, vortec engines are very picky on fuel pressure.

The fuel pump was replaced about 2 months ago

I agree fuel pressure is the first thing to check.

Just because it has a new pump doesnt mean it's ok.



Check the pressure and just see what it's doing.

I'd also try swapping in a known good ignition module.
