Unless they didn't want to admit the original part was under-spec.
Or they do not want people to know they cheaped out on the new one. I have seen Nissan do this multiple times over. Nissan stopped putting window motors on regulators they came on and they also stopped adding power steering pressure switches to power steering hoses. No part number changes.

I just noticed on Amazon that they have the Mercury Marine Vortec caps and rotors under the Quicksilver label. My Delphi cap and rotor did not last long, these are pricey but perhaps last longer?
