Years ago I put a cheap Northern Tool box on the front of my trailer for holding tie downs, a winch, etc. The aluminum diamond plate is holding up well, but the cheap steel hinges and latches are all rusted.

A little masking tape on the Aluminum around the edges and a brass brush on the latch followed by some clear lacquer will go a long way toward cleaning that up.

Take a good long look at the welds.
A lot of them have real crappy stich welds and any kind off serious weight will blow the bottoms out of them.
Mine is currently held in place by a bent Nissan rim.
For any kind of hard core use, get a steel box.
More maintenance and more money but well worth it.
And, easy to weld back together.
Aluminum boxes kinda suck

Toolbox installed temporarily until the side rail caps arrive from back order. Got tailgate cap on but still waiting on sides.
