Sounds like you best bet is to do it with cruise on, like most new cars Instead of set.

wonder if you could tie in and repurpose an otherwise unused existing cluster indicator?
Security seems quite pointless…

you want to have ignition power to one side of the light and then have the ground side of the light spliced into 85. 85 is feeding a “cruise engaged” ground signal to the ECM whenever the cruise control is actually active.
