Some reman shortblocks are still not too bad last I looked. Really glad that I bought most the parts I'll need for my projects after the 2020 election before prices went up, saved thousands! Crazy how much stuff is going up.

Chevy still has the crate 383 on their site, more than one actually but this one makes 323 hp and 444 tq with 9.1 compression which means you should be able to run it on regular 87 gas. They have a more powerful one that would need premium. They don't list a price, they want you to contact a dealer directly.

Best bet is buy a new GM block, either 350 or 383 and build it the way you want. I would use the original vortec heads you already have if they check out good they flow better than the new Mexican castings.
