Compressor????

1997 Silverado C1500 5.0. My compressor makes load clanking noises when I turn on my air. Do you think this needs replacing & if so replacement cost?

An A/C shop can give you a better diagnosis and price than an anonymous latenight advice foreum...
They're gonna have access to PAG oil, o-rings, books with current labor rates, equipment to evac and recharge the system, and likely gonna be able to give you a warranty too.
Unlike me...

Oh, and they probably could be able to hear the noise you're describing. Also unlike me...

Does the A/C still blow ice-cold air? If the sound is consistent and not fluctuating in an abnormal way then I'd say it's working fine. My replacement ACDelco Gold A/C compressor makes some noise when the clutch kicks in, as do most aftermarket compressors in my experience.

However, I'd have a shop diagnose it since we can't hear the sound of it.
