I have a 1996 Chevy K1500 with the 5.7 4x4. I have been trying to find anyone who can tune that year truck and motor, all i want to do is delete my EGR and have it tuned out of the computer so it doesnt mess with my timing anymore but every shop that I have called within 4 hours of me says that they dont have anything that can talk with my computer. Is there any online services that offer to ship you a new ECU and send yours in? I just want to get rid of the EGR, is that too much to ask?
Why do you want to eliminate the egr? Bad valve? Surely you don’t want to spend $500 to “fix” a $50 problem...
Thats an easy fix tbh. GM top engine clean every 7,500 miles. This is the one that was on my Tahoe. EGR was still turned on in the tune.
There is a guy on Ebay selling ECM's for these trucks that he has deleted the VATS, the EGR, the post cat oxygen sensors and basically all the smog crap. I bough one and love it. I think it was around $125.
Deleting the EGR is almost always the result of someone who doesn't understand how and why the thing is there to begin with.
Not always. It is there to reduce NOx. By pumping stoich exhaust back into the engine, there is less oxygenated air available to support combustion so cylinder pressures are reduced and, for all intents and purposes, your 350 acts like a smaller V8 with the EGR open. I saw no change in mpg by deleting it and have no emissions testing to worry about, so how does EGR help a guy like me aside from being one step closer to emissions compliant? It's a bandaid is what it is. Later motors with better cats and cams with different profiles (which reduce cylinder pressures/NOx) managed to get by without EGR.
Blackbear is who I went with. 255 bucks and if u decide to do other upgrades you just send it back in and let them tune it to your latest mod.
