Lately I have been getting the itch to buy a late 90's 2wd s10 eclb, thinking of putting a 4.8 ls motor in with a 5 speed. My thinking is that it would be a fun truck, yet light enough to still pull 20-25 mpg on long trips.

The 3/4 ton work vans that I drive have the 4.8 and even hammering on them - the dash says that I get 18-19 mpg. That makes me think that the 4.8 in a light s10, tuned, could be pretty good on gas.

Thoughts?

Uhhh...Do it!

Figured there were no responses. Personal opinion, the 4.8 would sip the gas for sure. I'd imagine 18-22 MPG would be real-world realistic.

My dd 02 S10 Xtreme has the 4.3/5 speed/3.42 combo and I routinely hit 19 in town and 22-23 on the freeway in the hills but if I'm in the flat lands doing 70 I'll pull 25. I imagine that a 4.8 would do that or better.

That should be a easy deal.
I'm putting a 5.3/60E in a S10 now for a guy. But it has 4.10 gears so kinda curious as to what it will get.

A s10 being kinda light I'd play with gears and tire size to try and get mileage up.

I got a 90s 2wd toyota truck I'm plannin on a high compression 4.8 / LT1 T56 with 0.5 6th gear and a 8.8 rear end cause I have one with 3.08 gears. I'd like to get 25 out of it.
