And I’m not trading anyone the ones I had brought up were for sale or trade I would sell mine after I obtain the 3500 so the buyer sees it does what it needs to.

It’s not easy finding a 3500 that
Someone wants to let go of still in a running truck for one thing . And everyone that is pulled is just that ~ and you only have the bs story behind it . If I could find one in a driving truck I’d gladly pay interest on the asking price

That’s a cool truck as is! I would be swapping the engine or building it for power before I swapped out a perfectly good 4500 for an unknown 3500 but each to thier own. What rear gears does it have?

MT8 trans
GU6 G80 rear gearing
So a 3.42 gear. Do you use 1st gear or do you always start out in 2nd? Do you drive over 80 mph? If you drive at 80 mph plus then look into keeping your trans and using a 3.08 gear to make 1st gear usable.

I’ve got a similar truck except it’s a 4x4 92 2500 with the NV-4500 and 3.73. Driving it around with the stock 5.7 TBI I found the 1st gear was great to ease it off the line and then I didn’t get aggressive on the throttle till I got into 2nd gear. I could easily go to a 3.08 gear to make 1st more usable however I’m better off just skipping 1st and starting off in 2nd as I’m not interested in 80+ mph driving except the occasional quarter mile blast for fun. In which case I would start in 2nd and bang gears through to 4th before the traps. With a 6000 rpm rev limit as it will be a forged internal SBC in a single turbo I have the potential to cross the traps at 130 mph in 4th gear.

Then when cruising in the street it can run 2250 RPM at 70 MPH which is perfect in my books.

It doesn’t matter what the trans does. I’m prob not gonna be able to be talked into wanting to keep it. For me It’s just dealing with a bunch of extra ****.
I already Have a bed left leg with nerve damage so clutching from the get is a problem let alone with a stiff nv4500 pedal Bothers me a lot .Plus it’s just no fun.
I don’t mind a 4 banger clutch like my buddy has in his ranger , I didn’t mind the nv3500 in my old s10 I had at one point .

I was going to either swap auto this winter 75% certainty or if I could find a gmt800
Style 98+ nv3500 swap to that in the mean time . It don’t matter which way you look at the 4500 will last yes but they aren’t all that fun for a sports truck build . And they’re just a cruiser and longevity trans

At this point, I’m just considering getting me a clean 700r4 K case run a new tv cable into the existing tbi bracket and a lokar floor shifter meant for the gmt400

Avoid the need to add all types of things to fit a 4L60e-4L80e since I can’t really get any ideas or the rundown on what I would need to add electronically what’s needed to convert to proper auto besides the obvious clusters during column transmission I don’t know anything about what would be needed in a 93 manual truck to run a 4l80e

The 700 would be the best option for you 100%. If you do a 60e you would need to add wiring and swap or modify the ECU.

Seems 88-93 k case is the best choice to go with along with optional 6 and 4 bolt something around the bell housing ?

I’ve wondered What’s the huge gripe about hating these because of the tv cables?

I remember my aod trans in my 91 tbird was quite the same design.

I mean one would assume if you keep up on inspection on the 1st-2nd shift change which I believe is best at 18mph-20mph and check tv cable tension is staying locked into the proper adjusted area and the tv cable clips aren’t broken off the tbi bracket They should be good transmissions.

I heard about upgrading a component in the valve body that does away with and prevents the 3-4 4-3 down shift issue they can have .

Other than that much I don’t know alot about them or to many other necessary upgrades that can or should be done ahead for a good daily 700r4
