Hello all,

The A/C in my old body 5.7L '99 K1500 ECSB has not worked in may years. sometime around 2008-2009, I took it to a shop and they said it needed to be replaced. At least, that's what I remeber from 10+ years ago. I don't rememner any details of the issue, just that it was going to be over $1k to fix. I'm starting the fix this truck up slowly, and now want to address this.

I just so happens that I have '01 3500HD that no longer runs, but has a virtually new A/C system which was put in there about 10K miles ago. This is a work truck that we are about to junk.

Does anyone know if I can swap the A/C systems out of the 3500HD and put it in my K1500?

I doubt that there is much that will swap over.

I don't know which motor you have in the 3500HD, but the lines will be completely different from the 5.7L setup. On my 01 3500HD with the 8.1L, the ac compressor mount is on the top left side of the motor, 5.7 is on the top right.

the compressor and condenser may swap over and maybe your 5.7 lines are ok?

Vortecs all have the compressor on the driverside. Then again is he talking about a GMT400 3500HD or a newer Silverado 3500HD. Makes a huge difference.

It cost me ~$570 to rebuild my whole ac system. New genuine Sanden 4261 (Sanden OE $340), new parallel flow condenser($80 APDI, Amazon ), new manifold hose(UAC, Amazon $50), new dryer(Murray Oreilly $20), new o-rings(Murray, Oreilly $10), SP15 PAG oil(Amazon, Sanden $20), new variable orifice tube (Rock Auto, Four Seasons $12) and flushing the system(AC Pro, Oreilly $20) and 4x10 oz cans of R152a (Sams Club $18). The compressor itself was $340 but I wanted one that was not a cheap chinese knock off.

Left vent in 102°F ambient with both front and rear blowers on high and the engine idling.

The previous rebuild worked from 2006 until before I pulled the 350 for the 383 with the exception of having to replace a leaking high side service valve in about 2009, a leaking front evaporator in 2011 and the rear expansion valve that had stuck closed at the same time. The old $180 Valeo HT6 compressor I put on it in 2006 was starting to knock in hot weather prior to the old 350 coming out. With the system being open I just rebuilt it again. Once every 10-15 years is not bad in Texas as our ac is running most of the year. For less than 1 new vehicle payment I came out with ice cold ac.
