this video claims to show how to defeat it entirely by removing the module...

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

not really sure what effect it would have to remove it since it contains the EVO as well.

I would not recommend the method described in that video. I don't think that's anything close to permanent. 99% chance that the issue comes back the first time he disconnects the battery.

There is a similar temporary bypass method which involves switching one wire coming out of the module, and from what I remember it works the exact same way. Start the truck with everything connected, flip the switch, then the system is disabled until it loses power next. At which point, the PCM will begin looking for a signal from the PassLock module again.
