am in the process of putting a 97 vortec converted to carbeurated in my wifes 96 k1500. Will I need to have a fuel pressure regulator in order to use the factory in tank fuel pump? What pressure should I run?

Yes, you'll need a bypass regulator (3 ports plus gauge) that can return fuel to the tank. Carbs usually like 5 - 8 PSI.
