When the minis go bad, in my experience, they will still try to start - they just drag and drag like your battery is dead. I don't think I've ever had one with "dead spots" - though I did have one (1998 3500HD wrecker) that would drag and drag and drag until suddenly it would start spinning normal speed and start the engine. Real nail-biter when the truck stalled out trying to lift a car I was snatching because the idle speed on the Vortec 7.4 was off. You'd hit the controls to lift the car and *blat* engine quits. Hit the key and ..............................

just put two different starters on my 5.7 gmc k2500 and they bother were defective both remans two different companies. Im trying a Delco reman next. Then im going to have my original starter rebuilt at a local shop and stock it on my shelf
