96 harness to 98 ecu

I have a 96 350 vortec fuel injection harness that i thought was a 98. The photo attached is a plug originally in the 98 computer. Does anybody know what this plug is and if its a necessity?

I had just watched a video going over 96-97 and 98-2000 ecus. In the video he explains how they’re not compatible due to them being pinned out differently and in it he also explains how the connector you posted is just a loop but I can’t remember if it’s a necessity or not. Heres the video:

if your gonna ask about a connector, it's got to be a photo of the open end at least. How many pins or circuits does it carry? What wire colors, identify circuits.
